The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire is a country on the southern coast of West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro, located in the centre of the nation, while its main city and economic hub is Abidjan, a port city. It shares land borders with Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) in the south. Its official language is French, but indigenous languages such as Bété, Baoulé, Dioula, Dan, Anyin, and Cebaara Senufo are also extensively spoken. Approximately 78 distinct languages are spoken in Ivory Coast. Numerous Christians, Muslims, and adherents of indigenous religions like Animism make up the country's religiously diverse populace.
