Burundi is a landlocked country located in the Great Rift Valley at the crossroads of the African Great Lakes region and East Africa. It is bordered to the north by Rwanda, to the east and southeast by Tanzania, and to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lake Tanganyika is located on its southwest frontier. Gitega and Bujumbura are the capital cities, with the latter being the country's major city.
