The Republic of Cabo Verde is an archipelago and island nation in the central Atlantic Ocean, composed of ten volcanic islands with a total surface area of approximately 4,033 square kilometres. These islands are located between 600 and 850 kilometres west of Africa's westernmost point, Cap-Vert. The Cape Verde islands, along with the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles, are part of the Macaronesia ecoregion.
